Spice - Hibiscus (powder) ORGANIC
The hibiscus flower comes in large, sun-dried, pinkish-red petals. It is most often consumed with certain teas and drinks for its coloring power, and its sweet and tangy notes.
Most likely originating from Sudan, hibiscus remains mainly cultivated in Africa, although it can now be found all over the world, in India, Indonesia and the United States.
Reduced to powder, the flower takes on the appearance of a spice that is easy to incorporate into cooking, for sweet preparations, but also to surprise a savory dish.
Hibiscus has very fruity notes, which can remind you of certain citrus fruits, pomegranate or goji berries. It leaves a sweet and tangy touch in the mouth. We will be surprised by its strong coloring power with a pink palette.
We offer whole or freshly ground hibiscus from a Malian producer in our shop.
The most popular recipe is to use hibiscus as an infusion to make hibiscus tea. It is served iced, with ginger, mint and a little sugar. In Ivory Coast, this drink is called bissap.
In powder form, it is used particularly to color and add a tangy touch to a preparation, in rice pudding, a compote.
