William Morris was a 19th century British artist, designer, writer and activist, born in 1834 and died in 1896. He is best known for being one of the major figures in the Arts and Crafts movement, which sought to promote manual labor and crafts in the context of the industrial revolution. Morris founded the company Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. (later known as Morris & Co.), which produced high-quality furniture, tapestries, wallpaper and other decorative works of art. quality. He was also a prolific poet, writing romantic poems inspired by nature and the Middle Ages. Morris was also a staunch socialist and was involved in several political and social movements of his time, advocating radical reform of society and the economy. Today, Morris is considered one of the most influential and innovative designers of his time, having helped shape the Arts and Crafts movement and Victorian aesthetics.
